First B Corp certification for European curtain factory!

As of today, we can finally do something we have been working towards for years: proudly announce that Royal Vriesco - A House of Happiness is officially a B Corp. This means we are now part of a global community of companies that meet high standards in terms of social impact and sustainability. These include Auping, Stella Maris, Dopper, Tony Chocolonely and Mr. Marvis.

And that's not all: we are the very first curtain factory in Europe to achieve this certification.

What does that mean? It means that we not only make good, beautiful and trendy curtains, but that we also make a real difference as an organisation. For you, for our people, for the planet and for future generations.

This is not the beginning of a sustainability adventure. It is the culmination of more than twelve years of hard work, perseverance and continuous improvement. In 2021, we obtained GRS certification and in 2022, Oeko-Tex certification for all our fabrics.

What is B Corp?

B Corp certification is one of the strictest and most comprehensive internationally recognised sustainability labels in the world. B Lab, the global organisation behind B Corp, assesses companies on everything from environmental impact and production processes to working conditions, transparency, profit allocation and social value.

It is not a marketing label: the bar is set high. Very high. For us, B Corp means that we consciously choose responsibility and continuous improvement. Just as we have been working on home happiness for over a hundred years, but never at the expense of the planet.

Why did we become B Corp?

Our sustainable course began at a time when sustainable fabrics were still labelled “smelly fabrics” and no one believed that curtains made from recycled materials would ever become mainstream. Yet we saw something different: a world in which curtains contribute to happiness at home and a better future.

So we gave our suppliers a choice: either you come with us, or we stop working together.

It was a radical step, but the right one. Since then, we have been taking new steps every day towards a fully sustainable collection. The B Corp certification is the crowning glory of that work.

What did we do to achieve this?

We have been making our collection more sustainable since 2012, and in 2014 we introduced the green hook for the first time. We haven't stood still since then, and now 81% of our turnover comes from sustainable fabrics.

Why is B Corp perfect for A House of Happiness?

Because B Corp not only confirms what we do, but also how we think. For us, sustainability is not a project. Not a department. Not a campaign. It's in our DNA.

For us, sustainability always goes hand in hand with craftsmanship and innovation. We want to show that curtains not only create atmosphere, but also contribute to a better world.

B Corp emphasises that we do this in a transparent and proven way.

What does this mean for our customers?

Quite simply: you choose beautiful, sustainable curtains that are made fairly and contribute to a greener world.

But also:
• A very high standard of quality
• A company that takes responsibility for every step in the chain
• A partner that continuously innovates

From the green hook on the shop floor to circular return programmes: we make sustainability visible and understandable.

And what does it mean for the future?

For us, B Corp is official confirmation of what we have been doing for years, and at the same time an invitation to continue improving.

Every day, we continue to ask ourselves: how can we make our impact even greater, our chain even greener and our curtains even more circular?

This means we will continue to innovate:
• More circularity
• Even less waste
• More bio-based materials
• Further sustainability improvements in our chain
• Expansion of the Curtain Return Programme
• Innovations that change the standard in our industry

Every day, we continue to ask ourselves the question:
How can we do even better?

Together, we create happiness at home that never comes at the expense of the planet.

Whether you are looking for curtains for your living room, bedroom or for a sustainable construction project:
With a B Corp-certified curtain from A House of Happiness, you are not only choosing atmosphere, but also impact.
